How often should you get a massage for pain?

If you’re dealing with pain, the honest answer is: it depends.
But there are patterns I see all the time.
If something is actively painful—like your neck, low back, or shoulders flaring up—coming in once every few weeks usually isn’t enough to actually fix it. It might feel better temporarily, but it won’t hold.
In those cases, treatment closer together (weekly or biweekly) tends to work better at the start. Once things settle down, you can space it out.
For more ongoing tension—especially if you sit a lot or work at a desk—most people do well coming in every 3–4 weeks. That’s usually enough to stay ahead of it without letting things build back up.
And then there’s maintenance. Some people just feel better when they come in regularly, even if nothing is “injured.” That’s completely valid too.
The main thing to understand is this:
massage works best when it’s consistent.
If you’re always waiting until things are bad again, you’re basically starting over every time.
If you’re not sure what makes sense for you, we figure that out together based on how your body responds—not a fixed schedule.
