Is 60 minutes enough for a massage?

Treatment length is one of the most common questions I get.

60 minutes is the most commonly booked session—and for a lot of people, it works really well.

But the right treatment length depends on more than just what you want worked on.

It can depend on body size and muscle mass, how much tension your body naturally holds, how long it has been since your last treatment, and how deep or chronic the restriction is.

Some people carry a very high baseline level of tension without even realizing it. Others may only have one focused area that needs attention.

Depth matters too.

Deep tension often cannot be rushed. Reaching deeper layers takes time. The body usually needs space to soften and respond before moving further.

If you have one or two specific areas to work on, 60 minutes is often enough to do meaningful treatment.

But if your neck, shoulders, low back, and hips are all involved—or if it has been a while since your last massage—longer sessions such as 75 or 90 minutes can make a big difference.

They allow time to connect patterns, work more thoroughly, and avoid jumping from area to area.

Shorter treatments, like 45 minutes, can still be very effective too, but they work best when the focus is more specific.

There is no one “best” session length.

The right treatment is the one that gives your body enough time for what it needs.

Treatment isn’t about filling a time slot—it’s about giving your body enough time to create change.
